The first thing you need to do before going out there posting random designs is to find your identity as an artist, what is your style and the type of images you can create that captures the best of your abilities. Then you might want to define the identity you want to create as a brand, even if you are just looking to post a couple of design without being too serious those designs will always look better if they are on the same page (concept wise) your work will look more professional and therefore a potential customer could feel more incline to buy. Remember the whole first impression thing? Well it’s true.
Imagine you go to the supermarket and find dairy over the meat department, well it’s the same if you have cute teddy bears designs for toddlers next to explicit adult jokes related images. The same apply for drawing styles and even some colors layouts. Don’t blame me; it’s just the way it is.
There are a lot of opportunities out there to increase your t shirt sales and one of them is to know when to bring out certain designs to the front of your store or even to create new ones. This applies the same in an actual physical store as well as online markets.
Since a great deal of your online sales comes from people surfing the web you got stay ahead of the trends if you want to capture their attention. For example: if your shirt are about political jokes, every time there is a new controversy in the congress hitting national headlines there will be also a great deal of potential customer searching the web for those news as well as those looking for a shirt that seize the moment.
In this sense there are many things that are happening all the time, think of “Occupy wall street” for example, or that last “Harry Potter” movie. The sky is the limit, and every time something new happens that capture the attention of the public there is a new opportunity to make a sale.
Taking advantage of the Seasons:
Besides the eventual breaking news opportunities there is also the seasons of the year and holidays going on every now and then. It is a good idea to have prepared a couple of designs that capture those occasions. Its all about staying ahead of what people is looking for, For example: if we are in middle of Christmas there will be a lot of people looking for Christmas themes. If we are in an election year, then the there will be a lot of people looking for political themes and so on.
Now this does not mean you have to jump to every season or stray away from your niche or style just to capitalize over those opportunities. If you don’t like to do political jokes, then don’t do it, because they will most likely sucks then.
However what you can do if you have a particular stile is: let say your designs are about a cute stuff animal character that you create, well you could adapt this character to the seasons. For example: putting a Santa hat for Christmas or a pumpkin for Halloween, Etc.
OK, now that you have a bunch of great designs on the table IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you organize them in a nice and professional way; once we mentioned that does not look very professional to have cute teddy bears designs for toddlers next to explicit adult jokes related images, we discussed that a little further in the “Find your identity” section.
What we really want to talk about here is that once the identity is found and style defined it is better for the general appearance of your store to have your designs divided into sections, not only it will look nicer, betters stocked and customer could find easily the type of garment they are looking for.
Try walking to any of those huge department stores and find something without looking those big signs on the ceiling that says “women’s”, “cleaning supplies” or “toys”, it would take forever to find (if you ever find it). The same happens on your online store, the customer lands on the home page and if things are not organize he might not even be aware that you have a certain product; let’s face it: a customer is not going to navigate all your store looking design by design hoping that on page 24 could be something of his or her interest.
